They are characterized by their distinctive appearance which contains an elliptical green shiny leaf and some small rounded fruits, that emerge at the beginning of the fall season, followed by their summer blossoms. These fruits are round shaped, and its colour changes periodically from green to yellow to orange and then to red, as they gradually ripe. Note that this plant is poisonous, so it is not safe to keep them around kids and pets. Jerusalem Cherry generally blooms during Summer, with star-shaped white flowers. Due to their attractive appearance and easy to care condition, they are mostly sold in a commercial market as Christmas Pepper or Christmas cherry plants. |
